Girgaon - The Life Between The Chawls
What if the real story of Girgaon is not on its streets, but between them? ✨
We are back with a new walk ‘Girgaon, The Life Between the Chawls’, a walk through the old chawls and wadis of Girgaon, looking at the architecture, everyday life and community that have shaped this neighbourhood for generations.
🗓️ Sunday, 11th October, 2026
⏰ 9:00 AM
📍 Girgaon, Mumbai
🎟️ 1200₹
The narrow lanes. The shared corridors. Clothes drying across balconies. Little shrines tucked into corners. Old timber, tiled roofs, tiny homes, shops opening onto the street and neighbours who have known each other for generations.
This is the Girgaon we want to explore.
Not just the buildings, but the life that happens around them. And who better to take us through it than someone who has grown up here?
The walk will be hosted by Mihir Vaidya, an Architect and Urban Designer, born and brought up in Girgaon, and have seen its chawls, lanes and neighbourhoods change over the years.
Through this walk, he would want to share some of the stories and details of Girgaon, the unique built form of its chawls and wadis to the ways in which people have adapted, lived and celebrated within them. We’ll also look at what is slowly disappearing, and what remains.
Come walk through Girgaon with us.
Look a little closer. Listen a little longer. And discover the life between the chawls.
